I started off my study abroad experience with a little drama! I took a nonstop flight from Newark to Rome on United Airlines yesterday. I was supposed to arrive at 7:45am so that way I would be on time to get picked up at the airport for my orientation in Tuscania. Everything seemed to being going smoothly, until a woman two seats away needed medical attention. Luckily two Italian passengers were doctors and were able to help... They hooked her up to an IV and an oxygen tank. However the situation was so bad that we had to turn the plane around and fly back to Canada to drop her off at the nearest hospital. After the extra traveling and refueling delays, I was facing a 4 hour delay and was going to miss my transportation to orientation. Once we finally landed around noon, I and two other Bentley-LDM students waited an additional 3 hours to be picked up and we finally made it to Tuscania around 4:30 pm.
It was a hot and beautiful day! The town is very quaint and authentically Italian. Our advisor, Mei is really sweet and gave us a tour around the town this evening. We had a welcome dinner and the food was very different (but good!) The first course was an "open ravioli" which I liked a lot and the second course was this meat-salad dish that was very unique. For desert we had a cake that had pineapples, oranges, and whipped cream in it. Very tasty!
After such a long day I'm thankful for my safety and that I finally made it to Tuscania! Thing are looking up from here :)
Glad you made it there safe Kristen!! I'm sure a lot of people are going to experience hiccups on the way there :C
